The goal of the Kindergarten Transition Team is to shared information around the issue of Kindergarten Readiness. We believe that communication between early care givers and Kindergarten teachers can be strengthen, and in the process, young children will enter school more prepared for learning.
Care givers can be defined as child care providers, parents, grandparents, friends, family and even neighbors, but it is felt that this team would find the most success by targeting the child care providers and teachers.
Therefore, the Team's activities are focused on bringing together early care and elementary school professionals with the express purpose of building professional relationships, communicating kindergarten expectations as they relate to our early care settings, transition activities and the success of our early learners.
- Ready. Set. Go! — In 2006-07, the a series of meetings were developed entitled "Ready. Set. Go!" This project was so successful that the Initiative Foundation developed a program-specific grant to extend the concept to other Early Childhood Coalitions throughout the state.
- Ready. Set. Go! Enhancement Training — During 2007, the Kindergarten Transition Team developed a sequel or enhancement training to the "Ready. Set. Go!" event.
- Ready. Set. Go! Social/Emotional — In we offered more "Ready. Set. Go!" training to those working in the early care and education of children. This new training is expected to offer education on the social and emotional needs of young children.
- Ready. Set. Go. Read — A two session book club will be offered on March 24, 2011 and April 28, 2011 at Central Lakes College - Brainerd Campus Library from 6:30-8:00 PM. This will be a great opportunity to peruse what your colleagues are reading and get some really good networking in too.
