In 2001, the six Minnesota Initiative Foundations began to collaborate on a joint public policy initiative focused on early childhood. This campaign is based on the fundamental beliefs that:
- Every child should have the opportunity to learn, to be safe and to be loved.
- In order to be successful, families need and deserve the support of the broader community.
- More children can and should enter school ready to learn and succeed.
- An investment of time and resources in children at a very early age creates a valuable economic impact for communities.
Quality, accessible and affordable early childhood opportunities should be a top priority of policy-makers at all local, regional and statewide levels.
The "Minnesota Early Childhood Initiative….A Campaign for our youngest children" was developed to ensure that every young child has the best possible start towards a healthy life of learning, achieving, and succeeding. Funded in part by the Initiative Foundation and the McKnight Foundation, the goals of these coalitions are to ensure that young children have quality care and education that leads to success in school and later in life.
